Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 L-Mount-lens voor 99 dollar lijkt speciaal ontworpen voor de S9 en BF

Viltrox heeft aangekondigd dat zijn super-slanke, ultralichte AF 28mm f/4.5 Chip-lens voor full-frame spiegelloze camera’s naar de L-Mount komt.

Viltrox introduceerde de AF 28mm f/4.5-lens in oktober 2024 voor de Sony E-mount en bracht hem iets meer dan zes maanden later ook uit voor het Nikon Z-montagesysteem. Hoewel het een full-frame-lens is, verschijnt hij ook native voor Fujifilm X-mount, waardoor bij X-Series-camera’s een equivalent van 42 mm brandpuntsafstand ontstaat.

Telkens wanneer de lens op een nieuw montagesysteem werd uitgebracht, kreeg hij dezelfde agressieve prijs van $99 (£90, €109). Dat geldt ook voor de L-Mount. Daarnaast is hij op elk compatibel toestel opvallend klein en lichtgewicht gebleven. Dat geldt uiteraard ook voor deze uitvoering: de Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 Chip L weegt slechts 60 gram (2,1 ons) en is slechts 13,2 millimeter (0,5 inch) lang. Een nadeel van dit ultra-compacte ontwerp is dat de lens geen schroeffilters accepteert.

Er zijn nog meer compromissen die Viltrox heeft gesloten om tot een pancake-ontwerp te komen. De lens heeft een vaste opening, wat betekent dat hij uitsluitend bij f/4.5 gebruikt kan worden — geen mogelijkheid tot langszaam openen hier. De autofocuslens met VCM kan ook niet handmatig worden scherpgesteld, wat buitengewoon ongebruikelijk is en de fotograaf mogelijk aanzienlijke controle ontneemt. De lens kan zo dichtbij scherpstellen als 0,32 meter (iets meer dan een voet), dus het is geen macrolens.

De ultradunne lens heeft een geïntegreerde schuifveer om een ingebouwde lensdop te bedienen, wat een handige eigenschap is.

Optisch weet de lens op een bijzondere manier zes elementen in zes verschillende groepen te plaatsen. Het bevat twee ED-elementen en een paar asferische elementen. Zoals te verwachten zijn deze elementen dan ook klein. Terwijl de meeste lenzen streven naar een ronde opening, kiest Viltrox volledig voor opvallende sterburst-effecten en heeft hij gekozen voor een polygonale diafragmaopening in plaats daarvan.

De Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5-lens is sinds zijn komst op de E-mount in 2024 een interessante metgezel voor vele camera’s geweest. Het was bijvoorbeeld een overtuigende, betaalbare keuze als lichte reislens voor de a7C-serie. Op Nikon lijkt hij goed geschikt voor iets als de Zf. Nu hij op de L-Mount is, heeft de Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 Chip wellicht zijn beste partners tot nu toe gevonden: de Panasonic Lumix S9 en de Sigma BF, een paar zeer compacte full-frame L-Mount-camera’s.

Toen Panasonic in mei 2024 de Lumix S9 onthulde, werd ook de Lumix 26mm f/8 aangekondigd, een $200-lens met vast diafragma en handmatige scherpstelling. De belofte was een lichtgewicht, compacte metgezel voor de S9. De Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 Chip L maakt dezelfde beloftes waar, maar voor de helft van de prijs, met autofocus en een snellere opening. Oh ja, en hij is ook nog eens kleiner. De Lumix 26mm f/8 verdiende zijn plek op de lijst van PetaPixel met Beste en Slechtste Camera’s en Lenzen van 2024, oftewel een schandlijst.

Hoewel de Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 Chip L er niet op uit is om records te verbreken voor beeldkwaliteit, zijn de concessies aanzienlijk beter te verdragen gezien de prijs van $99 en het feit dat er autofocus is.
